Let’s talk Booby Tape!

So today a coworker and I decided to test out the new BoobyTape we recently got in store, and let me tell you, I am SHOOK.

As an H cup, I have always avoided buying any clothing that is backless, strapless, plunging or daring in pretty much anyway. Strapless bras always bugged me after a few hours, and going braless has just never been an option… until now.

I have been wearing a backless bandeau-style application of the BoobyTape for about three hours now. As I write this blog, I can honestly say I feel more comfortable than seems logical. I keep waiting to get itchy, or irritated, or just plain sore. If you’re a person with larger breasts, you know the feeling, that ache in your shoulders and back you get from just existing braless, with all that weight hanging on your chest. Good times. Well I’m here to tell you that the BoobyTape is a damn game-changer.

I feel supported. I feel lifted. I don’t feel like my breasts are going to burst free at any moment and start partying it up fiesta style. I feel AWESOME.

Now as with anything in life, BoobyTape is probably not going to work for everybody. I feel like the fuller your breasts are the better luck you’re going to have. But to give it the best possible chance of working for you, I figured I should write out some tips and tricks I’ve learned from my trial and error testing of the BoobyTape today!

Some things to keep in mind when applying:

  1. Start from the bottom up, especially when doing a bandeau style. Initially I went straight across the nipple, and it made the silhouette really lumpy and awkward looking
  2. Pre-cut the pieces before you start applying. Cutting tape while your boobs are precariously resting on one small piece of adhesive is a recipe for disaster
  3. While cutting pieces of the tape, use a smaller length than you think you might need. I was LAUGHING at BoobyTape’s claim of 5-15 uses in one roll, but once I started applying it I realized I had cut pieces way too long and wound up wasting a bunch. That’s what I get for being shady before actually trying the product… my bad guys
  4. The tape sticks to skin excellently, but not so great to itself. If you mess up on your skin, you can peel it back gently and re-stick it, but that will not work if you’ve stuck it to another piece of tape, which finally brings me to
  5. This stuff is definitely easier to put on if you have a friend helping. The tape likes fold into itself and get stuck (think saran-wrap) so when you’re trying to tape it to the back or sides it becomes rather tricky without a spotter, or someone to make sure it’s going on nice and smooth.

And that’s it! Now let’s move on to taking this sucker off…

I have heard the best methods of removing the BoobyTape are in the shower using conditioner to gently remove the adhesive, or to use baby oil, or coconut oil, and saturate the tape edges until it starts to slide off. Guess what I didn’t do?

Yeah, yours truly passed out on the couch for an accidental three hour nap (proof the product is comfortable I guess) and then chose the lazy route and ripped the tape off like a band-aid. Probably not my brightest idea. It wasn’t extremely painful per say, but it certainly wasn’t comfortable. And it left pretty intense marks from the adhesive. Considering I wear an H cup, wore the product for over 8 hours AND slept like a log in it, I’m not mad about the marks. I think only literal magic would keep your skin mark free after all that, and unfortunately, I didn’t get my letter from Hogwarts at eleven so there’s no magic wand in your girls life. I’d cry about it, but I just discovered BoobyTape, so there will be no tears today!

What do you think? Have you tried the BoobyTape before? Are you definitely going to now? Sound off in the comments below to let us know your experiences with this game-changing invention!

U.S. vs U.K. Sizing – What’s the diff?

Many women come to forever yours lingerie to find their true bra size. Usually upon their first time visiting us, we ask what size they are currently wearing. Once they tell us, we ask, “Is that in U.S. sizing?” The response is usually a very confused look! Of course it is! Why the heck would Canadians be expected to understand U.K. sizing!? Well, the answer is simple, you’re not, and 90% of women in North America are in the same spot as you! But fear not because today we are taking you to bra school. Before we understand U.K. Sizing, we need to understand U.S sizing. Doing it the other way around would be like having dessert before dinner! Let’s save the best for last.

Many of you have probably visited large American chain lingerie shops, and some of you may have even gotten measured in these stores. 9 times out of 10, these stores will tell you you are a DD and most likely 2-4 inches larger around the ribs than you really are. Why would they do this you may ask? Simply put, it’s because they don’t have a size large or small enough to fit you properly. Understanding bra sizing takes months and even years to properly learn. (Our fit specialists go through 3 months of intensive training, but the learning doesn’t end there!)

Your band size should reflect the measurement around the ribs – Photo by Brian Perkins

The number one quick fact that I can teach you here today that will make your life easier is this; there is no such thing as one cup size. What do I mean by this?

A woman wearing a 30D is standing beside a woman wearing a 42D, obviously their body size is completely different, but they are both in a D cup sized bra. Their breasts are most definitely not the same size! The band size of a bra effects the cup size. Every time you increase the band measurement, the cup increases in size as well. Are you still with me? I know, it’s pretty confusing. Here is another example.

Luciana and Rebecca both wear and ‘E’ Cup even though they have different size busts. Cup size is relative to the band size.

A lady goes into a North American chain lingerie store that carries bras that go up to a DD size cup. She measures 34 inches around her rib cage. The store clerk can see that her breasts look far too large to fit into a 34DD, but they try it on anyway and her breast tissue is spilling out all over the place. The clerk knows she doesn’t have a cup larger than a DD, but she knows that in a 38DD, the cup is much larger and so they try that on. Perfect, (not really, but hey, she can only work with what she’s got!). Now in the 38DD, all the woman’s breast tissue is in the cup, so that must be her size right? Wrong, she is now in a bra that is 4 inches too big around which is the most important part of a supportive bra.

This is an example of someone wearing a US size before and a UK size after. Many women fit into the US sizing at large lingerie chains, but most of us do not! Check out more Before and After photos by clicking the image above!

When the band of a bra is not tight enough to anchor itself on your rib cage, you are losing lift and support. That’s when you run into back pain, the bra shifting back and forth on your breast tissue causing discomfort, the dreaded underboob sweat, and a whole slew of other nasty problems. So what is the fix? Unfortunately in US sizing, there isn’t one. But don’t lose hope, fortunately in the U.K. they’ve got it all figured out!

Time for dessert! Here at Forever Yours Lingerie we carry up to an O cup in UK sizing. Usually when I tell people that, they say, “Like, O as in OMG!?” Yes! But when you understand that the band size effects the cup size, it isn’t as scary as it sounds, and when you are in a properly sized bra and you look and feel amazing, who cares what the size tag reads!

U.K. Sizing is not some crazy different sizing scale. It’s the same as US sizing, but with WAY more options to get the perfect fit. With having such a large range of cup sizes, it is easier to get your band size and proper cup size all in one! So remember that lady we were talking about that measured 34 around her ribs? It turns out, she should actually be wearing a 34G and not a 38DD! In U.K. sizing, a 34G exists and is actually a very common size!

It is my hope that today’s bra school session puts you more at ease when you shop with us and even when you shop North American stores. Understanding sizing, even on a small scale, will hopefully make your bra shopping experience that much better! And if it’s all too much of a headache, well that’s what we’re here for! Fitting with Freddy – The World famous Fit Specialist

It was an honour.

We had the pleasure of hosting a two day event with Eveden. Founded in 2001, Eveden provides some of the largest names in the bra industry including Elomi, Goddess, Freya and Fantasie. Striving for substantial quality and femininity, these brands are well known and sought after in the world of bra fitting.

And so is Freddy.

Frederika (Freddy) Zappe is Eveden’s National Fit Specialist. Freddy travels worldwide, training, educating and inspiring people from all walks of life. We can’t help but be star struck in her presence!

Last Thursday, September 13, 2018 was the first day we’ve closed up shop for a dedicated day of staff training! It was 4 hours of education, laughter, and inspiration with Freddy, Paula (our regional representative), Heather (Canadian ales representative) and Laurel (Senior Vice President of Sales). Talk about a bunch of boss babes, am I right? Freddy’s many years of experience in the bra industry has provided us with a deeper understanding of why we do what we do at FYL. From teachings to fitting tips, professionalism and simply making women feel incredible, we were all hooked in by every word she said.

Freddy also brought her famous “barley boobs” (pink bags filled with 8 pounds of barley that you hang around your neck to demonstrate the weight of average size 38F breasts) Sounds pretty sexy right? Totally not meant to be sexy, but rather to drive home how crucial it is to wear a supportive bra, especially if you have larger breasts. Freddy’s favorite ploy is to get a man to put them on, and there’s only one man here at FYL…Brian, co-owner and Sonya’s husband!

He was the best sport and will always “take one for the team”…and the FYL team wildly demonstrated with their applause & hoots that they wanted him to be our boob model!  I’ve always known that the bra band should sit completely parallel to the floor, but Freddy was able to eloquently illustrate and explain why. The strongest part of the back is the mid back, which is exactly where that band should sit. If the band is too high (or less commonly too low) we’re adding weight and pressure to a part of our body that is less capable to carry the weight. Interesting, right?

Following the boob talk, we had a chance to have some ‘real-talk’. Freddy has always ensured that there is time to get feedback from us on products from Eveden. It provides a safe space for us to offer brutally honest opinions on what we love and hate about the products, as well as what our customers want to see in upcoming seasons, knowing that something will be done with it. She listens intently with the purpose of offering solutions and change. Freddy is the woman to get things done.

Then it was time for some hands on training! A number of the staff were so excited to try Eveden products, even next seasons samples, eek! This allowed us to show Freddy and the others not only Eveden products on multiple bodies, but other brands as well. With an open mind and eagerness to learn, the Eveden team embraced this as an opportunity to learn more about brands and products other than their own.

In the evening, Freddy provided a talk to a group of guests that signed up for an evening with Freddy. She was able to provide the knowledge and inspiration about bras and fittings that we were fortunate to receive earlier in the day, as well as some really heartfelt talk about confidence, feeling like we are ‘not good enough’, and how we start overcoming that… There were tears and some big revelations by some of the women attending!

With appies, bubbly, swag and giveaways, it made for a fun and exciting evening!

We will be looking to have Freddy back annually for an information evening. The Bra Industry is overwhelming, confusing and often dreaded by many people with a bust. Freddy has the ability to take the unknown and the intimidating and turn it into something fun and relatable. I strongly suggest signing up for tickets when she’s here next, as you’ll walk in confused, and walk out inspired. How many people do you know that can do that for you?

Freddy changes lives. I strongly suggest you take the opportunity for her to change yours.
